Stoll Construction is currently building a pole barn for a church in Brownstown Township, Michigan. The building is simple, but the requirements were very specific — the new structure needed to use the exact same roofing and siding materials as the existing church building.
Matching Exterior Materials (Not Just Colors)
When a property already has a defined look, it’s important for any new structure to blend in — especially for a highly visible property.
For this project, the exterior was designed around:
- The same standing seam metal roofing profile
- Matching 7/8″ corrugated steel wainscoting
- The same cement board siding used on the existing building
Using the same materials helps the finished building feel consistent with the rest of the site, rather than looking like a separate or mismatched addition.
Zoning Requirements & a 3/12 Roof Pitch
One of the key constraints on this project was zoning. Because the overall building height had to stay within specific limits, the roof was designed with a 3/12 pitch, which is lower than many pole barn builds.
That made the roofing choice important. We used the SS675 standing seam profile to match the existing church building, and the 1.75” rib height is a great fit for a lower-pitch roof like this.
Construction Progress
Framing is complete, and the standing seam roof is installed. We’re currently coordinating the remaining exterior finishes.
The main item we’re waiting on is the 7/8″ corrugated steel wainscot, which was required to match the existing church building. It’s manufactured out of state, so we’re waiting on delivery before finishing the wainscoting and exterior details.
A Simple Project That Still Requires Precision
Projects like this show how even a straightforward building requires attention to detail. Matching an existing structure isn’t just about color — it’s about using the right profiles, materials, and finishes so everything comes together cleanly.
